Family History Timeline

Family History Timeline

Need to create timeline for your family history? Where do you start? Today, Yesterday, a week ago, 5 years, 10 years ago…. Creating a family history timeline can be daunting and overwhelming. But having it will save your brain so many troubling moments of “when was that?”

Create a basic document, it can be upgraded to an excel sheet once you start to see the dates and events falling into place, but a simple document is the best way to start.

Write or type what you know. Don’t sit down one day and expect to know it all at one time. Let the dates, events, milestones come to you naturally (even if that means writing it down on a post-it note while cooking dinner).

Here are some key things to include in a Family History Timeline:

Birth-Date-Place
Early Childhood
Teen Years
Siblings Births
Schools Attended
School Years/School Grade
Homes Lived In
Vacations
Holidays
Traditions
Hobbies
Sports
Graduations
College
Marriages/Divorces
Jobs
Businesses
Children
Grandchildren
Nieces/Nephews
Grandchild, Grand Nieces/Nephews
Extended Family
Milestones
Accomplishments
Accidents
Hard and Trying Times
Hair Styles
Friends
National History Moments

The list could go on and on. Start somewhere and the information will start to flow in due time.
The timeline will help with photos, memorabilia, family history and genealogy.
